Last Day: Mind | Place | Spirit - Susan Moldenhauer

With the rare exception, I have always hated the closing day of an exhibition. Today was the final day for Mind | Place | Spirit photographs by Susan Moldenhauer. I am sad to see it close, but at the same time excited to see the new work by Betty Kaser and Mary McKenzie that will take its place.

I have loved Susan's work from the first time I saw it in her office at the University of Wyoming Art Museum in Laramie, WY. She captures the expanse, freedom and essence of the western landscape, but sharpens our perception of it through the use of fabric and in her more recent work the synchronism of figure, motion and fabric.

Susan's work is beautiful at first glance, however, like all great art work it becomes more and more interesting the more you look at it.

As usual, I had planned to start de-installing Mind | Place | Spirit once the gallery closed this afternoon. But, I just could not do it. Instead I grabbed my camera, took another set of installation shots and thought just one more night! Like a good friend or family member that is leaving it is always hard to say good-bye to something or someone you love. So, for now, Mind | Place | Spirit is still there - waiting for me to deal with it in the morning.
